The outdoor environment is an alien and unfamiliar environment for many children and youths. The adventure of the first visit to somewhere such as the Brecon Beacons is the same for every generation. It can lose nothing by time or repetition. The first sight of a mountain landscape, the first adrenaline rush experienced from a natural outdoor activity, the first trip away with peers evokes the same response with each new child. Firstly uncertainty but always at the end feelings of enjoyment, satisfaction or elation.

Use of the natural environment through adventure activities can make a unique contribution to personal growth through sharing experience, improving self confidence, exploring personal beliefs, attitudes and values whilst living and learning with one’s peers. The unforgettable experiences gained by participants from Call of the Wild’s utilisation of the wonderful natural landscape of the Brecon Beacons National Park and Gower Peninsula, enables this personal growth through adventure to occur in a safe and secure setting.
